Front / Back - Color / BW

When the customer gives the Originals to you, he has a hard copy or a concept of what is coming back to him. This is what you use to describe the Originals and Copies.  It is necessary to maintain the similarity with the Sheets Template because the bindery options expect it.  If there is cutting, stapling or any other post-press operation in the job, make sure your description of the job is compatible.  Make sure the quantities passed to post-press are the quantities you will process.  Enter into the Front Color field the number of Run Size flats or sheets that will be ran as color and into the Front B/W field the number that will be ran as black/white.  In System Options -> Template Options, you can turn on Auto-Calculate to cause it to calculate the number of B/W Front by subtracting the number that are Color from the number of Originals.  In this calculation the number Up is used to calculate the number of Finished Size Originals that will be placed onto the Run Size flat or sheet, but, since this template is highly modifiable, the calculation may not be correct.  If you find the Auto-Calculate is wrong more than  it is correct, then you should turn it off.

The total number of Run Size flats does not need to equal the total Originals divided by the number up.  The way the Originals are populated on the Run Size is up to you.

If the customer wants the front side of an Original printed on the front side of a Copy and the back side of that Original printed on the front side of a second copy, you can use the Two->One checkbox to specify how the job will be ran.  Two->One means Two sides of one page to one side of two pages.  This selection will double the quantity of sheets required.

If the customer wants the front side of one Original printed on the front side of a Copy and the front side of another Original printed on the back side of the Copy, you can use the One->Two checkbox to specify how the job will be ran.  One->Two means One side of two pages to two sides of one page.  This selection halve the number of sheets required.

If you use either of these two checkboxes and the number Up being printed is more than 2, be sure to verify the number of clicks and the sheet count calculated.

The template field called Sheets will contain a calculated number that represents the Run Size sheets required for the job.  That number is based on the assumption that all backside signatures will be printed on sheets that are not blank on the front.  The formula for Sheets is based on Originals, Copies and Up.  Since this template, with Step and Repeat turned off, allows you to define the number of color and b/w clicks that will be used, the calculated number of Sheets may be wrong for the job you are defining.  You can change and lock the Sheets number if it is not correct.

The best guess for the number of sheets is calculated by:

      (Copies * Int(Originals / Up)) / Int(Up / Originals)

The number of clicks for Color or BW is:

Total Color Flats or Total BW Flats * Copies / Up

The click rate table for the selected printer is size adjusted. Break points for the printer are based on the base paper size.  Larger paper sizes will first determine how many base size sheets make up the job before going to the rate table.  So 10 sheets of 11 x 17 are the same as 20 at 8.5 x 11.
