How To Setup Pricing

The pricing system in Print Shop Manager is at first more complex than the generic pricing lists many printers are accustomed to. But with the capability to edit entire tables of pricing data with just a few clicks, this complexity actually gives a great deal of uniformity and simplicity to the process of updating pricing.

The PSM pricing calculations follow a simple formula while allowing for many different types of adjustments depending on a shop's costs, markup, presses, etc. The basic formula is that Price equals Press price plus Stock Price plus the Ink, Bindery, and Pre-Press prices. Each of these has its own calculations that are explained below.

Press Price Calculation

The Press Price is calculated by multiplying the Press Rate times the number of sheets to be printed, and the stock factor. After multiplying these, the Setup charge is added to give the Press Price.

Note: it is possible to adjust all rates at once using the Across the Board Rate Changes option.

Stock Price Calculation

The Stock Price is calculated by taking the cost per 1000, multiplying it by the markup, then the quantity, then the quantity factor, and finally the color factor.

Ink Price

The Ink price is the ink cleanup charge, and it can be modified by going to the Ink Pricing Grid.

Bindery Price

The Bindery price is a combination of the setup charge and the cost each. The term "each" is defined for each bindery option. A discount table can be added to the calculation for discounting large orders.

Pre-Press Price

The Pre-Press price depends on what type of Pre-Press process is being completed.
